Oftentimes when I first start working with someone I see a bit of a sheepish look on their face when I’m asking them questions about their business systems. It’s almost as if they are a little embarrassed at what their current, or lack there of, process looks like.
I often hear things like:
-Sorry this is such a mess.
-I probably should have this more organized.
-I guess I never really thought to x, y, or z.
Here’s the thing, when working with any consultant or coach you are (or at least you should be) in a no judgement zone and trust me when I say this, the same goes for me.
I have NEVER started working with a client and thought to myself – they’re a hot mess.
What I usually think is “this is someone whose business really took off and they’ve been so busy busting their butt growing their business and making sure they deliver mad quality to their clients that they haven’t even had a second to make their own life easier.” #truth
And girl, it’s time to make your life a little easier. Trust me, you’ve earned it!
So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about why you should hire someone to help you with your business processes.
You don’t have time.
This one is kind of a no-brainer, but worth taking a minute to talk about. As I said before, a lot of my clients feel like they “should already be more organized” or “should be able to do #allthethings themselves.”
But I can be real with you?
You don’t have time. And that’s OK!
And if I can take this one step further, I’d even go as far as to say you don’t want to. And that’s ok too! Business owners (especially in the early stages) wear a lot of hats and it’s not surprising there are things you don’t know how to do, don’t have time to do or simply have zero desire to figure on your own.
Ain’t no shame in that game.
Time is our most valuable resource. Use it for what you enjoy doing and when appropriate outsource what you don’t.
You know your business too well.
This almost feels a bit counter-intuitive. The idea that someone who knows little about your business is actually much better suited to help you create processes for it.
Here’s the thing though, you know your business so well that your brain “fills in the gaps.”
For example, let’s take the task Make Sales Page. You’re the business owner. You know where the templates are, the photos you like to use are, where all the links you need are, how you like it set up, that you need to update the testimonials, etc.
Your brain fills in allll those sub-tasks because you have done it so many times.
Now, what if you hired a VA and said “make the sales page”.
Would they be able to just take that and run with it?
Nope. They don’t know all the little ins and outs that you do. And you don’t even think to tell them because it’s just second nature to you. BUT if you have someone outside of your business helping you creating your process then not only will you have a task labeled Sales Page, you’ll also have all the little things that go along with it because you’ll be asked to provide that information.
You’ll spend hours figuring out something you need to do once.
Finding the right CRM, scheduling tool or project management software for your business is no easy task. I get asked All. The. Time. which system should I use? The options feel endless and learning about each to decipher which will serve you best feels even more hopeless.
Then, assuming you are able to decide on a tool or program (maybe you drew it out of hat, or threw a dart at a board), NOW you have to figure out how to set the damn thing up.
Now you have to spend HOURS, watching tutorials, asking in FB groups and scouring YouTube to get your new system set up. AND this all for something that needs to be done ONCE! You’ll spend all that time to set it up and then never need that knowledge again.
Good news! If you hire an operations consultant, they’ve already done all the research. They have experience with many different tools, platforms and systems. We know which questions to ask to find the right tools for your business and WE take the time to set it all up!
Win. Win.
Inviting someone to see the behind the scenes of your business processes can leave you feeling a little nervous or embarrassed. Trust me though, there is someone out there who is FAR more unorganized than you – I know because I work with them!
And remember, in the end there are a lot of reasons hiring it out totally makes sense.
